The roof timberwork of Kokořín Castle will be protected by Bochemit as a precautionary measure

Kokořín Castle, a national cultural monument, is located on a sandstone rock above Kokořín cove and dates back to the first half of the 14th century. It was built by Hynek Berka of Dubá, was damaged during the Hussite Wars and later abandoned. The maintenance of the castle palace, located on the eastern side of the site, involved the repair of the roof timberwork and partial replacement of the roofing.

During the maintenance and protection of monuments, the question often arises as to whether it is necessary to replace, for example, roof timber structures infested by wood pests with new elements or whether it is possible to repair it and preserve the authentic historical value. An examination of the roof timberwork of the castle palace revealed significant damage to the truss at the western hipped end, which was caused by long-term leaking of water.

The damaged parts were repaired using prosthetic timber to the so-called vertical joint, the ridge piece and beam ties were replaced with new ones. The entire timberwork was subsequently treated with the clear Bochemit QB Profi against wood-destroying pests in accordance with conservation requirements.

The new roofing consists of a small monk and nun roof tiles laid in a special unpainted lime mortar. As part of the proposed works, the damaged parts of the stone elements were partially repaired. The author of the design documents is Martin Volejník and the contractor is TESMO, s. r. o.
