Restoration of the wooden church in Dolní Marklovice

Restoration of the wooden church in Dolní Marklovice

Last year, the valuable wooden church of the Ascension of the Lord from the 18th century was completely restored in Dolní Marklovice in the Karviná region. Its timber structures were successfully treated with colourless Bochemit QB Profi during the renovation.

Wooden elements that were infested with rot and pests were replaced. This involved mainly the bottom row of oak beams. It also involved the beams of the timbering in the most damaged places, especially next to the organ on the choir loft, in the sacristy walls and one of the main pillars of the tower. The roof frame was repaired and the church was given a new shingle roof. In accordance with the requirements of heritage protection, the timber elements were impregnated for protection against wood-destroying pests with BOCHEMIT QB Profi, a product which guarantees long-lasting preventive protection against mould, wood-destroying insects and fungi both indoors and outdoors.

The listed sanctuary from 1739 is one of the best preserved wooden churches in the entire Upper Silesia. It is a single-nave wooden timbered building, which has an external covered staircase from the pentagonal chancel to the oratory, open toward the presbytery. The staircase is an exceptional structural element not found on other buildings in the area. The fact that the church does not have a ridge turret is also unusual, which is explained by the strong Protestant tradition in the region.
